New Transmissions for Class 8 Heavy Duty Trucks
Earlier this fall, Kenworth announced that the new PACCAR TX-18 and PACCAR TX-18 Pro automated transmissions are now available for order. These transmission models’ predecessor, the PACCAR TX-12 was designed to be the most efficient on-highway automated transmission, and the TX-18 offers that same efficiency with additional capabilities, especially for heavy on-highway use.
PACCAR TX-18 & PACCAR TX-18 Pro Features
Basic Specs
The TX-18 and TX-18 Pro transmissions feature:

Less Maintenance
Both the TX-18 and TX-18 Pro feature a maintenance-free clutch, reducing maintenance costs and frequency. For on-highway use, maintenance intervals are either 5 years or 500k miles; for vocational use, maintenance intervals are 3 years or 250k miles.
More Control
Utilizing the column-mounted right-hand shifter, the TX-18 and TX-18 Pro shifters have gear selection and engine brake controls at the driver’s fingertips. This improves overall performance, safety, and ergonomic control over the truck’s basic operations.
18-Speed Ratio
Improvements and additional speeds offer versatility and additional maneuverability, which is key for large heavy-duty trucks. The TX-18 transmission series offers a range of operating applications, improving maneuverability around job sites. The TX018 has three reverse gears and the TX-18 Pro has six reverse gears.
